This sounds like a political speech to provide political cover for the improper conduct of the Sanford Police Department. As a city official your duties require protection of the cities fundamental services, wherein the Police Department has displayed an inability to perform their duties to protect & serve while observing the most fundamental basics of law enforcement.
The statement below make it obvious that you omitted the vital issues as relate to the investigation whereby a presumed innocent victim’s civil rights were violated regardless of your legal premise. Mr. Zimmerman should have been tested, detained for questioning, alcohol & drug tested, along with proper documentation to preserve the investigation. This was not done thereby giving the appearance of cover up of an inappropriate investigation by Sanford Police. There is no doubt that probable cause existed for criminal charges relating to a negligent shooting resulting in a death, but the District Attorney was not consulted during the process. There is no doubt Mr. Zimmerman escalation of force resulting in shooting Mr. Martin was unjustified.
Place all police officers associated with the investigation of the Trayvon Martin shooting on administrative leave while an investigation by an independent agency reviews the departments actions.
Demand the resignation of the Sanford Police Chief immediately or terminate him for cause as your city charter allows for conduct unbecoming a public official.
I’m not a resident but a concerned citizen so perhaps there is no legal obligation on the city’s part to respond. But as an independent outside view point I would respectfully suggest your city take action immediately. Regardless of the public political hyperbole debate this case was obviously mishandled regardless of the intent.
As an American I’m requesting someone in a leadership role stop political correctness in handling a situation and do the right thing!!!!!!!! This is a disgrace to everything it means to be an American!!!! Someone can stand up and stop it now so America can see our system works properly or you can illustrate our weaknesses and further erode America’s last standing principle.of civil liberties.
